In the presence of an enormous crowd the State Premier (Mr J. Lang) dedicated a Cenotaph in Martin Place to the memory of those who died in the Great War. The ceremony was most impressive a square block of Moruya granite, inscribed “to our glorious dead” and “lest we forget” becoming a sacred monument of the future generations to those who fell in the Great War. The ceremony, which was attended* by the State Governor (Sir Dudley de Chair) and the Consular body, was very simple. Mr Lang in his dedication speech, said: “These men believed their country was in danger and gave their lives to keep her free. Nothing a future historian may discover can embellish their noble dead. and nothing that may be found can diminish the glory of their sacrifice.”
