ACTRESS’ EYE BURNED PERFORMANCE DISCONTINUED (Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Aug- 8. There was a sensational ending t> the performance of the Robert Roverts Revue Company at the Strand Theatre on Saturday evening. Miss Arline Paterson, leading lady of the company, was about to step on > to the stage in the guise of Mary Pickford. George Edwands, another member of the company was entering the stage from the other side, and before his entrance a stage band bad to fire three blank shots from a revolver. As Edwards gave the signal to fire the stage hand, with, the revolver be hind him, fired, the red hot gunpowder striking Miss Paterson just under the left eye. She shielded hei face from the two following shots by raising her arm, which received! painful burns on the elbow. The performance had to be discontinued. Miss Paterson’s eye was bathed in the dressing room. TTien she was carried to her hotel next door, where Dr. Tcwsley attended to severe burns under the left eyelid and along the rim of the und*erlid and a quantity of discharged powder had to be removed from tho eye. Miss Paterson hopes to be back on tho stage within a few days.
