MALAYA AIR SERVICE
NEW TYPE OF SEAPLANES FREQUENT TRIPS SCHEDULED. SINGAPORE. July 25. A daily air service between Penang, Port Swettenham, z and Singapore, and, with Dutch co-operation extension to Belawan (Delhi) in Sumatra, Aluntok in Banka, and Batavia in Java, are probable as a result of negotiations which have been in progress for some months. The formation of the Eastern Airways, Ltd;., is proposed, and two entirely new types of seaplanes, to suit the special climatic conditions, have been designed for the service. They will be all-steel monoplanes, one typo having three engines of 450 h.p., and capable of carrying eighteen passengers, a crew of two, and nearly a ton of freight, with fuel for 275 miles. The smaller type will have one engine of similar power and be capable of carrying a crew of two, six passengers, and mails to the extent of 1801 b., and have a range of 350 miles. Under the scheme a machine will fly each way between Singapore and Penang daily, except Sundays. Singapore to Belawan will be flown each way three time a week, and Batavia to Singapore twice a week, with a halt at Aluntok. Later it is hoped to complete the journey from Penang or Belawan to Batavia, via Singapore, in a day.
