GOLF. [ Special “ Chronicle ” Service. ] The qualifying round for the ladies’ championship of the Rangitikei Golf Club has been postponed until further notice. On Friday afternoon the L.G.U. bronze medal competition was advanced a further stage, when Mrs McDonell returned the best card, 11—36 75. Mrs Law was next, 99—23—76; and Mrs Tricker (113 —36—77) and Mrs Mammaru (105 —28—77) tied for third place. FANCY DRESS BALL. The children’s annual ball drew a big crowd to the Town Hall on Friday evening, the gross takings being over £5O, so that the School improvement funds will benefit considerably. Children were present from Parewanui, Sanson, Ohakea, and even from as far as Palmerston North, and the costumes were very fine. The children were treated to a splendid supper, while the music (by the Marton Premier Orchestra) was of the very best. Unfortunately, the lights failed between 10 p.m. and 1.1.30 p.m., but the acetylene plant was used and gave fair illumination. CHURCH OF ENGLAND MEN’S SOCLET Y!. The members of the Bulls branch of the Church of England Men’s Society will journey to Grcat.ford on Tuesday evening, where a men’s service will be held in St. Martin’s Church at 7.30. Several candidates will be admitted. It is proposed to hold meetings of the society in Greatford on the fourth Tuesday in each month in addition to those at Bulls on the first Friday. SYD. CHAPLIN AS OLD BILL. Doris Hill is the name of the sixtecn-years-old beauty who plays opposite Syd. Chaplin in the Warner production of Bruce Bairnsfather’s famous comedy, “The Better ’Ole,” an exceptional Master Picture special which comes to the Bulls Town Hall on Wednesday night. Miss Hill plays the role of a petite French girl, daughter of the village innkeeper in Boucaret, where most the scenes of the picture are laid.
