MUDLARKS

BAD SHOW WEATHER CONDITIONS AT PALMERSTON NORTH. The Weather Clerk seems to behave badly whenever a show is held at Palmerston North. Occasionally the weather is fine, but on most occasions it is the reverse of pleasant. Manawatu’s showgrounds, also, have a not altogether desirable propensity for becoming very moist with even moderate showers. The muddy conditions are made worse by reason of the shuffling of the feet of the throngs at the show. Visitors to the event on Saturdayfound this state of affairs to be only too pronounced. Some people who were intent on seeing the sights adopted the practical method of clinging to the fence enclosing the football field. Others who were compelled to go unaided were often in dire distress, while some came sadly to grief *on the muddy surface.
