A GOOD RESPONSE
CONCERT FOR THE WORKLESS BRIGHT AND VARIED PROGRAMME. A great response to 'the appeal for funds towards the relief of Unemployment was made at the Wanganui Garrison Band concert in His Majesty’s Theatre last evening, when the sum of £46 14s 4d was collected at the doors. A further £ll 6s 8d was collected within the auditorium in response to Miss Ngaire Te Wcra’s recitation, “Please Give Me a Shilling, Sir.”
Assisting the Garrison Band (conducted by Mr Tom Gray) were the combined orchestras of the Opera House and His Majesty’s Theatre, under the
baton of Mr G. F. Holloway, the Eton College Boy, a violinist appearing nt the Opera House, and several local art ists. The programme included the following items: —Selection, “The Pirates of Penzance, f * Garrison Band; baritone solo, Mr S. Kendall; violin solo, Miss Doris Dempsey; soprano solo, Mrs G. Perrett; selection “Slavonia Rhapsody” combined orchestras; tenor solo, Mr B. Hoar; violin solo, the Eton Boy; resitatin, “Faces in the Street,” Mr W. J. Bailey, with sequel, “Please Give Me a Shilling, Sir,” Miss Ngaire Te Wera; solo, Mrs Luxford; selections, “Bohemian Girl” and “The Whistler and his Dog,” the Garrison Band. Miss Claire Fcltham was accompaniste. The management of His Majesty’s Theatre gave the theatre rent free.
