GENERAL NEWS. □ Advice has been received that the A. and A Line’s chaptered steamer City of Brisbane has been substituted by the City of Carlisle, which is expected to clear New York on June 21 with case oil and general cargo for Auckland Wellington. Lyttelton, Dunedin and Launces The Ikala sailed from Montreal on June 4 for Newport News to continue loading foi Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin Melbourne, and Sydney. The vessel is due a Auckland about July 17, and at Dunedir about July 27. The New Zealand Shipping Company has received advice that the Watcheran arrived al Cornerbrook on June 1, and at Sydney C. 8.) on June 6, to load for New Zealand. She is -J sail finally from Montreal on June 25, foi Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The new 20,000-tonner Orford is to replace the Orient steamer Ormuz in the Australian mail service. The Ormuz, which was recently sold by the Orient Company, was formerlj the German steamer Zeppelin. She was taker over by the British Government after the war as part of the indemnity due by Germany for war damages to British shipping. With the advent of the Orford—she is due to leave London on October 29—the Orient Co will have four paliatial 20,000-ton steamers it the mail and pas An ger service, the other ships being the Orama, Otranto, and Oronsay. It is reported that four new vessels are im building for the Australian service. Two oJ the new vesseus will be motor ships, and the other two will be fitted with turbines. Thej will have passenger accommodation for 30 oi 40 passengers, and will be specially built foi the wool trade. It is expected that the first will be in Australian waters within six months. The Dutch company, the Rotterdam Lloyd, is also building new ships for the Hol-land-Australia service. Officers on the steamer Tapanoeli, on her maiden voyage to Australian ports, said th A their company was constructing four new motor ships of about 65t»0 tons gross register, and with accommodation for 4u passengers.
