PASTURES NEED STOCKING SHORTAGE OF CATTLE STRESSED. [Per Press Association.] GISBORNE, June ]3. A meeting of farmers ,addressed by Mr. J. S. Jessep, chairman of the Meat Board, passed a resolution: “That, as adequate stocking with cattle is necessary to prevent pastures deteriorating, and to maintain production, this meeting approves the Meat Board’s proposals to stimulate the export of beef and urges upon the Government to give effect to the same.” Mr. Jessep stressed in his speech that the prosperity of the Dominion depended entirely upon its pastures and that these could not be maintained without proper stocking. Sheep land required a certain number of cattle, and as the beef industry did not pay. the shortage of cattle was causing serious deterioration of the pastures.
