POLICE CALLED OUT
A NEW YORK MOB PROTEST OVER BRITAIN’S CHINESE POLICY Received Juno 12, 5.15 p.m. (A. & N.Z.) NEW YORK, June 11. The police were called out to quell a demonstration in front of the British Consulate, where a crowd of 350 men and women had gathered to protest against the British policy concerning China.

PITIFUL PLIGHT OF THE WOUNDED FOREIGNERS GIVE MEDICAL AID (A. & N.Z.) SHANGHAI, June 10. Twelve doctors and nurses, headed by Dr. Crawford, from West China, are leaving for Hankow to alleviate the
horrible conditions prevailing there since swarms of Southern wounded returned from the front. r Daily reports from Hankow emphasise the pitiful plight of the wounded, the inadequacy of the hospital arrangements, arui the danger of plague spreading, unless immediately checked. Strangely, the Chinese authorities ‘did not hesitate to appeal for foreignassistance both medical and financial, tfye latter despite the well-known wealth of the Hankow Government. The appeal for financial assistance has caused strong protest among foreigners, but medical aiid is not grudged.
