■■ j His Money or His Life. i During a rehearsal of “The Wandering Jew,” Ashley Page, who was play1 ing the name part, was told he had to 1 die under the table. s “Y'ou are mistaken,” said Page, “as u to the character I am playing. The s Wandering Jew never dies.” i To this Andrew Melville replied, n “Look here, my boy, I’ve put out a s poster showing an awful fight in an 1 American drinking saloon, with a man, his throat cut from ear to ear, dying under the table. On that poster I have J put a strip saying, ‘The Wandering Jew, Standard Theatre, every evening.’ ’ So, in this theatre, for this revival, and I to realise that poster, the Wandering y Jew dies under the table —or he gets a fortnight’s notice.”
