BOXING

MANAWATU CHAMPIONSHIPS NEXT WEEK’S FIXTURE The Manawatu Championships take place on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Tom Souter’s school will bo represented by Carlston (heavy), Meads (cruiser weight), Corliss (welter), W. Gray and O. Forward (light-weights), Roy Forward (feather), Sedon ami Gray (flyweights). The winners, if thought good enough, will be sent to the New Zealand championships at Invercargill in August. The boys’ class under 15 years of ago is stated to be filling rapidly and some promising lads have joined, up. Several boys come from Makirikiri and are very keen. If the Wanganui Association are going to hold any championships this year they should make an announcement as to the date to give the boxers a chance to get fit. Dick Caird, a promising light-heavy, is stated to be coming on nicely and shows great promise.
