HOCKEY. [ Special “ Chronicle ** Service. ] Ideal weather prevailed on Thursday when the chief attraction was the hockey match between Pakeha and School, in which the latter were defeated by 3 goals to nil. The game was more willing than scientific, with Pakeha on the attack most of the time. School played a plucky gafue but they were somewhat overshadowed by their more experienced opponents. A bright passing movement culminated in E. Johnson scoring a goal. Twenty-three minutes after the commencement of the game Mrs Sweeney had scored Pake ha’s second goal. Shortly after the second spell commenced School made a determined but unsuccessful effort to score and Pakeha rushed play to their opponents’ goal, and Miss W. Wapp scored Pakeha’s third goal. The game ended soon afterwards with the scores unaltered, and Pakeha still on the attack. A ladies’ seven-a-side tournament was played and resulted as follows:—Pakeha 1, Huias 1; Old Girls 1, Aorangi 0; Huias 2, Pakeha 2; Huias 2, Aorangi 0; Huias 1, Old Girls 0. A men’s five-a-side match resulted in a win for Y.M.C. against Pakeha by 3 goals to 2. These games were played chiefly with the object of allowing players some practice in preparation for the Feilding tournament. BIBLE CLASS RALLY. The annual Presbyterian Bible Clas? rally was held yesterday in the presence of a large gathering, which included* Bible Class representatives from far and near. A large charabanc from Apiti arrived in Taihape at 10 a.m. with a full complement of passengers anxious to attend the rally, and Olnkune, Raetihi and Marton were also well represented. Proceedings opened with a service in the church, at which the R p v. E. Bandy and Mr D. Spence delivered addresses. Mr H. L. Butler acted as chairman. Dinner was at noon. The members of the local Bible Class, assisted by a band of willing workers, had charge of the dinner arrangements. During the early part of the afternoon games were played, after which the rally photograph was taken.
A period was then devoted to quections on Bible Class matters. Mr D. G. Gordon presiding. Afternoon tea .served and the gatherinng was addressed by the Rev. J. Bisset, Rev. E. Bandy acting as chairman. ■ Tea was served at 5.15 p.m., and an hour later a well attended meeting of district committee representatives was held. The rally ended with a most enjoyable social, which lasted until 10.30 | m, GENERAL NEWS. A large number of local people attended the football match between Wanganui and Taranaki yesterday There .was also a satisfactory number of local enthusiasts at the Feildifig hockey tournament to see the local teams compete. Jack Lincoln, a shunter on the railway, had a finger badly lacerated during shunting operations recently.
