FIRE AND WATER

The players form two rows. One row represents Fire, the other Water. A line is drawn between them in the centre of the floor. The game commences by Fire saying “I am stronger than you.” “Nonsense!” cries Water. “I could quench you. ’ ’ Then the two lines advance towards each other; and when they meet in the centre, each of the players tries to push his opponent back over the line. When he has succeeded in doing so, he follows him over the line, and waits until the other contests have been decided. Then the side which has pushed most of its opponents over the line cries “Triumph!” and the players in the winning line join hands and dance in a ring. To make this contest quite fair, of course it is essential that the players opposite each other should be of equal size, or at least of equal strength.
