FAT STOCK
The Commonwealth Veterinary Officer in London (Mr Ross Grant) in his report for December, states, according to an exchange, that the honours at the leading fat stock shows in Great Britain last year were mostly carried off by crossbred animals, particularly fat cattle. He considers that the most successful cross is the Shorthorn Aberdeen Angus, The Southdown remains the best mutton breed of sheep, and Mr Grant states that if first importance is to be attached to producing the right type of A for export from Australia, this brc:. I will considerably improve the typeThe report states that the large white middle cross breed of pig used by the Dutch farmers to produce a standardised type of pig for export should be popular. Owing to the large supplies of chilled beef available, there is little or no sale of frozen beef during December. Australian frozen lamb, however, was much in evidence at Smithfield market, and Mr Grant states that the quality and condition were good, general improvement being shown in the dressing.
