DOGS—AND SPORT

PAPARANGI TRIALS A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE The Paparangi dog trials were held last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in fine weather, and attracted .a record number of entries and spectators. The ground was situated near the Brunswick bridge and was in the opinion of Mr O. J. Dunlop (Hawera), who officiated as judge, one of the best on the coast. The club members are grateful to Mr D. Ross for the use of the ground for their annual fixture. The sheep were supplied by Mr R. Farley from his Paparangi property, and were excellent, both for condition and for a slight tendency to stubbornness.

On Tuesday a large number of spectators was present, in anticipation of seeing Miss Long, of To Kuiti, in the huntaway class, but unfortunately she was unable to be present. Mr D. Ross presented the cups won in the two heading events and he mentioned that the ground had been recently sold. In the event of the club being unable to secure it for future use, he would offer the club for permanent use grounds situate on his other Kai Iwi property, equally suitable for dog trials, also a teams cup for competition. Mr R. Anderson, chief liberating steward, and all the members of the club worked hard to put the fixture through without a hitch. The catering was in the hands of the ladies of the Westmere Memorial Church.
