LETTER FROM GOVERNOR-GEN-ERAL f From the " Chronicle’* ” Bpecltd Correspondent. ] | The following letter was received , yesterday morning by His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. J. Joblin) from His Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson:—"May I express through you to the residents of Taihape and the surrounding district, my grate- ! ful thanks for their very kind welcome and for all kindness and consideration I shown to me during my stay in the town. I have appreciated it very much and have been touched by the evident desire of everyone to make my visit as pleasant as possible. It was a great pleasure to me to meet so many of ihe citizens and also Guides, Scouts, and schoolchildren of all ages. And most of all I shall always look back with pride to my association with tin-, unveiling of the War Memorial, and the opportunity it gave me of meeting so many of my old comrades in arms. I am most grateful to your Worship and the Council and to all those who gave their time and trouble to make the occasion successful.” , GENERAL NEWS The weekly euchre party was held on Tuesday evening. There were 80 players present and an enjoyable evening was spnt. The games resulted as follows: First prize. Mrs Casey and Mr Chapman; consolations, Miss Barnes, Mr C. Galvin. The weekly class of boxing instruction was held in the O’Connor Hall on Wednesday evening, several new members being enrolled. Several of the members are getting very fit and are looking forward to the contest to be held later in the season.

Ken Anderson while cycling home, met with a nasty accident, colliding with another cyclist and cutting his head badly. He will be unable to attend to his work for several weeks.
