PUZZLING TO LAWYERS. “Why cannot doctors in their certificates use language that even lawyers can understand?’’ asked Judge Sir Alfred Tobin at Westminster County Court recently, after wrestling with medical terms in the case of an injured workman seeking compensation. The report of the doctor for the insurance company mentioned among other abstruse things that there was no sign of “Rombergism ’’ or “injury to the vertex. ’ ’ A pocket medical dictionary was obtained and Sir Alfred proceeded to search for definitions, but with only partial success. He gathered that Romberg’s disease was progressive fac’al impaired nutrition, and confessed that this did not make him much wiser. The signs of Rombergism, he read, were swaying of the body and inability to stand. He said it sounded like a tost for drunkenness. The ease was adjourned for the attendance of the doc tor.
