THE BILLY BOYS’ WORKSHOP

HOW TO MAKE A NVRSEBY SEE-SAW The materials required to make the nursery see-saw pictured in Fig. 1 are as follows: One strong plank of wood, about six feet long, nine inches wide, and one inch thick —for the top. One plank, three feet nine inches long, nine inches wide and about half an inch thick—for the 11 rocker.” Two boards, each nine inches wide, about one inch thick and ten inches long —for the end supports. One board of the same width and thickness, but sixteen inches long — for the centre support. Two pieces of batten, each nine inches long, to go under the “rocker.” Two pieces of batten, each eighteen inches long, for the foot rests. Two pieces of batten, each one foot ten inches long, for the struts.

To make the sea-saw, nail the centre support to the middle of the top boaAd, and then nail the end supports to the top board at a distance of eighteen inches from each side of the centre; let these slope toward the ends as shown in the diagrams. Now lay the top board flat on the floor an)d cut the ends of the struts so that they fit nicely, as seen in Fig. 1 and 2. Nail th< foot rest battens to the ends of the side supports, leaving room for the “rocker” and the under battens. Now nail the nine inch battens underneath the “rocker” at the ends, and nail the “rocker” itself, in the exact middle, to the centre support. Bend one end of the “rocker” over and nail it to one end support. Then pull down the other enjd with a piece of cord twisted round it and the top board (as shown in Fig. 2) and nail .it firmly to the other end support. Turn the sec-saw right way up, fasten pads of thick cloth at the ends to serve as cushions, and all is complete. The Hut Carpenter.
