HIDDEN FOR 1300 YEARS A NATIONAL MONUMENT. LONDON, April 20. The Roman Baths of the city of Bath are about to be scheduled by his Majesty’s Office of Works, acting on the recommendation of the Ancient Monuments Board, as a monument of national importance. They will, of course, remain under the control of the Corporation of Bath, whose energies in the ’eighties, when the extensive excavations were carried out, disclosed the remains hidden for • some thirteen centuries, and again dur- | ing the past year or two by further excavations opened additional baths and hypocausts to view. The citizens of Bath have long realised that they are the most important national monument remaining of the health and recreative ’ ’ Roman life in Britain dr three centuries.
