BULLS

RUGBY. [ From the “ Chronicle’s ” Special Correspondent. ] On Saturday Bulls seniors visit Hunterville, and a great game is anticipated. Wednesday’s junior game here was the usual fiasco, most of the local players being in camp at Levin, and the fifteen which took the field had a considerable complement of third class players and nondescripts. One elderly player, whose enthusiasm exceeded his present ability, caused much amusement when he joined the local side.

Old Boys staged a sparkling exhibition for a junior team, and might give any senior combination in the subunion a good game. Harre was the star of the crowd, rattling on four fine tries, while Atkinson (3), and Porter (2), also showed their scoring ability, L. Barry was in fine form with the boot, kicking three goals, and D. Watt added another. In the second spell, Bulls being “22 down,” several seniors joined in, and the game resolved itself into a practice one. Claude Ellery and D. O’Connell registered tries for the local side, D. Westwood converting one. The final scores read: Old Boys 36, Bulls 8. GENERAL NEWS There was a large number of mourners at the funeral of Frank Anaru, only son of Mr Maui Anaru (known as Murphy) at Parewanui on Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. Leonard read the burial service. Those interested in the improvement of the school grounds, principally in the formation of a tennis court, will be given an opportunity of supplementing the funds by attending the first of a series of euchre tournaments in the Town Hall this evening. Parents and others willing to assist in the, supper arrangements are kindly asked to communicate with the headmaster (Mr Olsen) or the committee. And he’s proud of his tramp experience. The days he spent on the road proved valuable to him in his direction of “Pals First,” showing at the Bulls Town Hall to-morrow evening. The story has one episode which deals with the life of three hoboes, and there are many intimate touches Carewe interpolated which occurred to him during his “Weary Willie’’ days.
