SCHOOLS CARNIVAL [ From the *' Chronicle’s ” Special Correspondent. J A combined meeting of the schools •arnival executive and representatives of the Junction committee was held in the school on Tuesday evening, Mr O. E. List presided, and explained that the meeting was called for the purpose of deciding upon a date for holding the crowning ceremony and the form it should take. He stated that the carnival had been most successful and congratulated Mrs Johanson (mother of the winning Queen), who was present, on the victory. On the motion of Mr Henson, seconded by Mrs Johanson, it was decided that the coronation ceremony be held m the Town Hall on Friday, May 27, si conjunction with a childrens’ and id alts’ ball. A strong committe was set up to :arry out arrangements in connection with the ceremony, and it was unanimously agreed that the services of Woodlock’s Premier Orchestra be engaged for the occasion. FOOTBALL The final game for the Charity Cup rill be played at Rochfort Park to-mor-row between Raetihi and Junction sen:ors and it is anticipatead the game will oe a very evenly contested one. The team to represent Junction will be as follows: G. Bilderbeck, Jenkins, D. Bilderbeck, Elliott, McKay, Tomare, Pressnell. Hari, McKeon, Sharkey, Meads, Maloney. Adams, Pitkowski, Gawn and Cavannagh. Reserves: Baek—Cameron; forwards—Paucina and B. Gordon. FIRE On Wednesday morning, shortly after midnight it was discovered that the interior of the tobacconist and fancygoods shop occupied by Mr H. W. Paynter opposite the railway station was on fire and an alarm was given. The brigade was quickly on the scene, but in the meantime willing hands with the aid of a patent fire extinguisher and buckets had the flames practically subdued. Considerable damage was done by water and breakages, the extent of which is unknown There is no clue as to the origin of the fire. PRESBYTERIAN GUILD A* meeting of the Presbyterian Church Guild was held in the church on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Moore presiding. A considerable amount of routine business was transacted, and Mrs Hiskens was appointed secretary to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mrs Smart. A presentation was made to Mrs Adams, who will be leaving shortly to reside in Foxton, in recognition of her valuable services as a member of the Guild. Afternoon tea was provided by Mesdames Moore and Smart.
