RUGBY UNION [ From th® " Chronicle’* ” Special Ckjrresponderit. ] The weekly meeting of the Taihape Rugby Sub-Union was held on Monday evening. The president (Mr J. Quirk) presided. It was resolved to devote the takings at the gates on Saturday next to the Memorial Fund. Mr S. McDonell acting head master of the T.D.H.S. waited on the committee seeking a donation towards school football. —After the committee had heard his request they voted the sum of £l2. The secretary was instructed to put in a challenge on behalf of the Taihape : Maoris for the Whenuaroa Shield. The draw for May 7 is as follows: ; Old Boys v. Hautapu No. 1 ground, i 2.45; Huias v. Pirates No. 2 ground 2.45; Juniors: Pirates v. Railway No. 1 ground 1.30 p.m.; Old Boys v. Hautapu No. 2 ground, 1.30 p.m.; Utiku v. Mangaweka at Mangaweka at 2 p.m.; third grade: Mangaweka v. Hautapu at Utiku, 2 p.m. GENERAL NEWS A first offender was charged yesterday morning with the theft of £4 from his mate. Messrs Aldridge, J.P., and Daws, J.P., were on the Bench and convicted and ordered accused to come up when called upon within 12 months. Restitution of the amount was made by accused. Yesterday morning 32 horses and men entrained for Levin where the Manawatu Mounted Rifles are to camp for the next ten days. The annual meeting of the Taihape Plunket Society took place at the Rest Room on Monday evening over which Mrs G. N. McDiarmld presided. The same committee was re-elected .with the addition of Mrs L. Hill and Mrs Joblin. The. Mangaweka representatives are Mrs Sweet and Mrs Guthrie, Hunterville being represented by Mrs T. Duncan and Mrs D. Stewart. Mrs Fitzsimmons who hafl been secretary for some years took the position of treasurer, only, explaining that she could not now devote the time necessary for the secretarial duties. In the meantime this position has not been filled. The Golf competition this week will be a flag match, open to all grades. The course is now in excellent condition, the recent frosts have cut down the long straggling grass.
