RABBIT BOARD AFFAIRS

FEILDING CONFERENCE [Per Press Association.] FEILDING, April 27. The Babbit Boards 7 Conference today was presided over by Air K. W. Dalrymple, delegates being present from Marlborough, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu, Rangitikei, Main Trunk, and Oroua districts. The principal remits passed were: That the executive approach the bounties’ Association with a view to discovering a way to compell native owners of land to contribute towards the Board’s expenses and local body rates; that Rabbit Boards have power to fill extraordinary vacancies without the expense of a poll; that where it is possible, and Rabbit Boards so desire, rhe Government appoint rabbiters to report on weeds to the Government inspectors, who will take the necessary action; that postal voting be adopted for elections of boards. There was a lengthy discussion on the fur trade, Marlborough proposing that the Government commandeer all rabbit, skins at a flat rate throughout the year to ensure a greater destruction of rabbits in the summer months. It was pointed out that trappers were tempted to leave rabbits in the suflimer in order to have a good crop in the winter. The conference left the matter to the executive, being not favo’irable to Government control.
