FILM CENSOR DEAD
MR. W. JOLUFFE ELEVEN YEARS’ FILM VIEWING ENDED. (Special to “Chronicle.”) WELLINGTON, April 2f. The death occurred yesterday of Mr William Jolliffe, New Zealand film censor for 11 years. Born in England some 75 years ago, the late Mr Joliffe was trained for the Bar, and before his arrival in the Do minion spent some time in Australia. He served as an official in the Bills Office, Parliament Buildings, Welling ton, and in 1900 was appoint'd head of the Law Drafting Office. It was in 1916 that deceased was appointed censor of kinematograph films. Since then he had inspected miles upon miles of celluloid. Despite the wearying nature of the work, Mr Joliffe was ever the essence of patience, tact, and courtesy. Mr Joliffe is survived by a widow who resides in North Terrace, Kelburn, one son, Mr W. Jolliffe, jun., B.Sc., of the Government laboratory, and two daughters, the Misses Jocelyn and Roberta Jolliffe.
