MAORI CHAMPIONSHIPS WELL CONTESTED GAMES. Tlie second annual Maori tennis championship meeting commenced at the Wanganui East courts on Saturday. As the scores indicate, there were hard gought games and several surprise wins were registered. The speakers at the opening ceremony were Sir Maui Pomare, lhe Hon. A. T. Ngata, Mr W. A. Veitch, M.P., the Rev. J. Paterson, and Mr G. HPownall (president of the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association). In reply to an invitation sent to the Prime Minister by the Maori Tennis Association, Mr Coates sent a telegram regretting his inability to attend. The matches were played to time, and groat credit is due to the honorary secretary (Mr P. Te 11. Jones) and his assistants for the prompt manner in which the arrangements were carried out.
