FRENCH FINANCES TAX RETURNS INDICATE GOOD RECOVERY. Received April 17, 5.5 p.m. (A & N.Z.) PARIS, April 16. The extent of the French financial and economic recovery is shown by figures published to-day. The Finance Ministry, giving tax returns for the first quarter of 1927, states that they exceed the Budget anticipations. Figures for the Customs Department show that exports are increasing, while imports are decreasing. Unemployment is also decreasing every week. Revenue under the general Budget for March ■was 2,632,000,000 francs, of which normal permanent receipts are 2,530,000,000 francs. This is an increase of 815,000,000 francs over the figures for March of 1926. The total for the first quarter of 1927 is 8,251,000,000 francs, which is an increase of 1.029,000.000 francs over the returns for the similar quarter of 1926.
