A VALUABLE SHIPMENT

GOLD FROM NEW GUINEA ’PLANES TO SOLVE TRANSPORT PROBLEM Received March 10, 11.40 p.m. SYDNEY, March 10. A steamer brought 14,000 ounces of gold, valued at £35,000 one of the largest shipments yet made from the New Guinea goldfields. A number of miners who were unable to obtain leases on the fields returned and a considerable number more of disappointed men are awaiting to obtain passages. Some of those who have returned declare that the reports of the richness of the field are greatly exaggerated. Prospectors are building great hopes of better transport, thereby widening the prospects of exploring the gold bearing area, when aeroplane transit commences.
