FOR PARTY FUND “CORRUPTION ON A GRAND SCALE” LONDON, March 8. Tn the Commons, Mr E. Thurtre (Labour) introduced a Bill making It an illegal agreement to recommend fife conferment of a title of honour in return for donations to party funds. He declared that the origin of the Lloyd George fund was largely through the sale of honours practice, which existed previously as a retail business, but the Coalition made it wholesale. T’.o unclean gold which thus came to t?ie Lloyd George fund caused deep convulsions in tho. Liberal Party. Tho Bill compelled the parties to publish periodical lists of subscription.*. The sale of honours was corruntion on a grand scale. It was an offence to bay a vote for half a. crown, but the law permitted the sale of a peerage tor £4O 000. The Bill was road a first time.
