GERMANY AND SPORT PREPARATIONS FOR OLYMPIC GAMES. BERLIN, March 8. Germany is making a gigantic bid to lead the world in sport. Preparation for the coming Olympic Games is in full swing on a most extensive scale. The athletic youth is being mobilised for contest with a zeal not short of fanatical. A delegation has already visited Holland to reconnoitre tho ground and has leased an hotel and several boarding houses 16 miles distant and arranged for a fleet of charabancs for conveyance. Germany will be represented by 400 selected from 6,000,000 members of sports organisations. Chief hopes of victory are centred in boxing, swimming and running. Of £40,000 the Government provided £BOOO, which will be expended in preparations. Eight huge stadiums are being constructed in the principal cities, together with thousands of municipal sports grounds, out of iState, and municipal funds to provide rallying places of the national athletic movement unparalleled in the history of the world.
