In the House of Commons a Labour motion in favour of the appointment of an impartial committee to re-examine unemployment problems was defeated by 252 votes to 142. Mr David Lloyd George (Liberal) urged that the problem was a very serious social and economic symptom of the day. Not only was the cost gigantic, but hundreds of thousands of young men were growing up in enforced itlleness.
