Mr and Mrs Barstow are visitors iiorn. New Plymouth. Miss Wilson, Kakahi, left Wanganui this week to visit Dr. Elspeth Fitzgerald at Oamaru. Mr and Mrs Harry Purser and the Misses Purser, formerly of Wanganui, motored to Wanganui from Auckland for a short visit. Miss A. Rutherford, Hastings, is visiting Wanganui. Misses G. and B. Glenn, Southland, are visiting Wanganui and Auckland. Mrs Walter James, Inglewood, is visiting Wanganui. Mr and Mrs W. H. Gibson, of ITeilington, formerly of Wanganui, are visiting the city. Mrs Compton Smith, formerly of Remuera, who has been visiting Taranaki, has returned to Wellington.

Miss Gladys Gill arrived in New Plymouth on Monday to take up her duties as district nurse. Mrs and Miss Thew arc visiting this city. ODDS AND ENDS Mrs Wilson, of Auckland, Chief Guide Commissioner, arrives in Wanganui to-night. Mrs Wilson will moct the local executive and company committees at the residence of the president (Mrs Hope Gibbons) to-morrow afternoon, when there will be a general discussion on Guide matters. At 7.#*o there will be an inspection of Guides at Mcrewevher’s garage. The Divisional Commissioner, Miss Newcombe, will entertain the Guiders at the Laay Jellico© Club Rooms, after the inspection. There was a good muster of Guides and Brownies on the occasion of t&e visit of the Duke and Duchess of York. In addition to the big companies of Wanganui, 178 girls from Bulls, Marton, Himterville and Taihape, weio present, and in all 439 girls were on parade. The committee of the Plunket Society announces that when the Truby King Karitane Hospital (Wellington) is in full swing, which will he within six weeks, the commitee intends to hold an afternoon tea to which will be invited all members of the society, who will then have an opportunity to see the hospital fully equipped. Dr. A. J. Crawford and Mrs Crawford, of Wanganui, received invitations to be present at the opening of the hospital,

which took place yesterday in Wellington. The Duchess of York performed the ceremony, with a beautiful golden key. During the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York to Hawera, the following ladies were introduced by tne Mayor (Mr E. A. Pacey): The Mayoiess (Mrs E. A. Pacey), and Mesdames J. B. Murdoch, J. M. Townsend, W. G. Strange, E. Morrissey, H. N. Lester, G. J. Bayley, W. G. Walkley, C. o. Preston (Normanby), T. Innes and E. Long (Manaia). The Victoria League of Wellington arranged for a unique floral tribute which was presented to Her Royal Highness the Duchess of York on her arrival in Wellington. This was a basket of New Zealand plants, ferns, flowers, and berries. The basket was a very largo one, and had been specially designed by Miss Gray for the purpose. Over one hundred specimens of New Zealand plants were included, and among them was a branch of Northofagus cliffotioide fuscia, or red beech, a rare specimen, since it is the only plant of its kind in the world. It was found at Elfin Bay, Lake Wakatipu, and the leaves are perman entryred. This particular specimen camo from the garden of Mr G. Simpson, in Dunedin. The plants have been gatheied from all over New Zealand, and arv bedded in moss so that they should last a long time. Dr. Cockayne has compiled a list of the names of all these plants, which accompanies the gift, and he and many others interested m New Zealand plant life have assisted Miss Gray in obtaining the specimens. The basket was sent to Government House by the Victoria League to await the Duchess’ arrival. The New Zealand friends of Miss Isabel Wil ford, daughter of Mr T. M. and Mrs Wilford, Wellington, will be interested to have late, news of her, says a London correspondent. Directly after the close of “The Best People’’’ at the Lyric Theatre, where she had been understudying Olga Linda, Miss Wilford was engaged to understudy both Tallulah Bankhead and Rurn Terry in “The Gold Diggers,” the comedy now running with great success at the same theatre. One nig«t Miss Ruth Terry was taken ill during the first act. and her understudy w.-s called on at a moment’s notice to continue this low-comedy part. With time only to slip into the clothes and without time to make-up. Miss Wilford was behind the footlights with great promptitude. She had an excellent reception and was well received too by all the members of the company, who congratulated her on her success. Malcolm, that of Mrs Jean Millicent Collins, late of Wellington and Ohakuno, to Mr John Lawson Cameron, of Wanganui. T7ie bride wore a charming frock of cinnamon georgette and lace, with hat to tone. SHERMAN—HARDING On Tuesday, February 22, Mr Jarnos Cyril Sherman and Miss Alina, Gertrude Harding were married at the Church of Christ, Mathieson Street. Mr F. J. Marshall conducted the ceremony. Miss Harding was attired in a frock of cream satin morocain with georgette sleeves and cascades. Her bouquet was of white roses and dahlias, and sne were the customary veil and orange blossoms. The bridesmaids were Miss Elsie Marshall and Miss Lesley Gordon, who were gowned in coral and lavender asters. Mr Sherman was attended by Mr W. Wright and Mr Raymond 8011. Breakfast was partaken of at the residence of Mr and Mrs F. Marshall, Salisbury Avenue, Wanganur East, and a reception was given to their friends by the bride a.nd bridegroom in the evening. Mr and Mrs Sherman are to settle at Auckland, and are spending their honeymoon at Rotorua. The bride’s travelling dress was of grey velour, with hois de rose hat to tone.
