' February 5. —Caledonian Sports (Cook’s Gardens). February .10 and 12.—Now Zealand Championships (Auckland). Championship Teams. The teams to represent the local amateur chibs at the West Const Championships should make their appearance on Monday. The Hawera Club have selected a very strong team, with which they hope' to regain the championship banner. Athletes from Manawatu. Wanganui athletic enthusists will be interested in the performances of the strong team of runners and cyclists from the Manawatu Athletic Chib who will appear at the sports on Cook’s Gardens this evening. Concerning Cyclists. I. Ross is riding very well at present. He is now at Vie top of his form and provides plenty of thrills with his long bursts of speed. L. Wakeley is also riding consistently, and is improving all the time. Ono of the most improved cyclists is D. Adamson. He was perhaps unlucky not to have beaten C. Ericsson in the club championship on Wednesday evening. W. H. Bowyer is deserving of success. He has practically no training on the track and rides in to Wanganui from Turakina to compete. His win was very popular the other evening. K. Anderson seems to have lost his form but should regain it shortly. A. Cave has been on the sick list but hopes to bo on the track again tonight. There was a fine field in the boys’ event last Monday evening. If these boys support the clubs they will obtain ample racing. From the Running Track. C. F. Maitland is still going well. He should be careful, however, not to overdo his racing. J. Pawson is steadily getting back to form. He should put in a bit more work on the tracks. Word received from H. E. B. Newton says that he is keeping at tho top of his form and will be ready to defend his titles on January 29. A. Monigatti can produce a lot of speed and is generally prominent. K. Johnston seems to have gone a bit stale, and this staleness was particularly evident on Monday night. H. E. Edmondson has decided to have a spell from the track for the rest of the season. He intends devoting his time to the official side of the game. W. R. Bradley is running exceptionally well at present, and should bo successful in the championships. One of the most promising sprinters on the coast is W. Ball. As yet he is a bit unseady on the mark, but is improving with every race. Fraser McLean is out on the tracks again, but is carrying too much condition at present.
