ROBERT BORNS
AN ADMIRER’S TRIBUTE VERSES WRITTEN IN ALASKA A Wanganui correspondent forwards the following verse, penned by a friend in Alaska on the 1911 anniversary of Robert Burns’ birthday:— A Bums Tribute Tho’ but a tiller of the soil, A man of poor estate, From out the ranks of those who toil Hav-e sprung Earth’s truly great. Breathe the name o’ Robbie Burns, And like a sudden flam,e Thru’ Scottish hearts the life blood starts Anew at that dear name. And to the brain what mcm’ries spring, O’ oor hameland sae fair, Like a vision we see oor ain countrce la the sangs o’ the Bard o’ Ayr. And oh! the sweetness o’ the sangs In oor braid milker tongue This genius gav e out owre the wave In every land arc sung. And, aye, when Scotia’s sons shall meet, When his birthday returns Their hearts entwine for Auld Lang Syne In the sangs o’ Robbie Bums. J. WYLIE.
