OVER A BANK
SERVICE CAR S FALL ACCIDENT AT HAIRPIN BEND OCCUPANTS ALL IN HOSPITAL. TWO PASSENGERS SERIOUSLY INJURED. (Per Preu Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 28. Rounding a hairpin bend on the Omihi saddle about 9.,30 o’clock this morning, an express service car, bound from Christchurch to Picton, overturned and rolled down the bank, turning over three times and then sliding or falling down a gully about 20 yards. The five passengers in the car and the driver were thrown out and ail were injured, two seriously. The injured were:— Miss Martha Annie Nelson, aged 48, o.f Richmond (Nelson), injuries to the chest. Miss Elsric Elizabeth O’Leary, aged 20, a school teacher, of Symonds Street, Auckland, injuries to chest, right knee and left hand. Mrs Doris Hood, aged 28, widow, of Grafton Street, Auckland, injuries to chest. Airs Tonge, aged 40, of Spreydon (Christchurch), head crushed, ono ear torn off (condition serious). Alexander Taylor, single, aged 40, of Rangiora, broken arm and other injuries (condition serious). Mitchell, driver of the car, bruises and shock. Fortunately one of the first cars tn pass the spot after the accident brought Dr. Eleqnor Baker Me La glen, who attended the’ injured. A lorry was obtained from a nearby station homestead and Airs Tonge and Air Taylor, the two victims most seriously hurt, were taken to Waikari Hospital. The others were brought to Christchurch Hospital by an ambulance. The'patients in the city hospital arc not in a serious condition, but no news is available of the patients in the country hospital.
