LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE ANOTHER CLAIMANT. tr«r Tress Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 27. i On the ground that the rules of the New Zealand Boxing Association de- I cree that the title should revert to the i ex-champion, Frank O’Neill, of Runanga, Westland, who lost the lightweight championship to Les Murray in 1922, and who is visiting Auckland in search of a match, makes the claim that he is the holder of the title in view of Murray’s automatic forfeiture in December, 1922. Murray is on a visit to the United States. This challenges the suggestion that the title is one for which Charles Purdy and Reg. Trowern are indisputable rivals and between whom with the title at stake a match is contemplated. Murray has defended the title since it came his way. but this, O’Neill contends, does not affect the fact that it is an ex-champion with whom any claimants since Murray’s forfeiture must do battle. He is so confident of
the legality of his claim that he is immediately going into training with a view of defending what he considers his title.
