FERTILISER MIXING SHED OUTBREAK AT FREEZING WORKS (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 27. The fertiliser mixing shed at the Islington Freezing Works was gutted by fire at 10 o’clock yesterday morning, with hundreds of tons of fertiliser in course of preparation. The Islington Works brigade made a good save and had the fire well under control by the time an engine from the city station arrived. The fertiliser mixture is subject to spontaneous combustion and it is thought that this was tho cause of the lire.
