JURY FAILS TO AGREE FRESH TRIAL ORDERED. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. On the trial of Mrs Nevill for alleged illegal use of. an . instrument, counsel addressed the Court at length. Mr Wilford asked, where there was any element of doubt, as he submitted there was in the present case, the accused should be given the benefit. His Honour summed up and the jury retired at 3.10 p.m. They returned four hours later to announce that they could not reach a decision. A fresh trial for the present charge was fixed for the February sessions. Another indictment will be proceeded with to-morrow. Mr J. D. Macassey prosecuted on behalf of the Crown, and Messrs T. M. Wilford and J. F. B. Sttejphenson appeared for the prisoner.
