TURF FIXTURES, June 25, 26—Hawke’s Bay J.C. .Tune 25. 26—Ashburton County R.C. July 6,8, 10—Wellington R.C. July 22—Waimate District Hunt July 22. 24—Gisborne R.C. July 24—South Canterbury Hunt. July 31—Christchurch Hunt. HAWKE’S BAY MEETING CONCLUDING DAY STURDEE’S BRILLIANT EFFORT SANTIAGO SCORES IN HURDLES (Special to “Chronicle”) HASTINGS, .Tunc 26. The Hawke’s Bay meeting was concluded to-day in fine weather, before a good attendance. Sturdee’s jumping was the feature of to-day’s racing, for he gave a really great display. Santiago won the open hurdle race well, showing a marked improvement. Matu Gets Up. Tn the Havelock Hurdles Matu was a shade better backed than Ruby Ring, with a fair amount of money for Mixed i Heather. Ruby Ring bled half way through the race and was allowed to drop out of the contest. At the first fence Ruby Ring, Polyastra and Peshwa were in the van and they showed the way down the straight to Matu and Mixed Heather. Mixed Heather fell at the fence five furlongs from home; when Peshwa, Polyastra and ! Royal Heather were several lengths (dear of Matu, and Thcic was toiling along in the rear. Matu Lad closed on rhe leading trio at the last fence, and ) came on in the straight to win comI fortably by two lengths from Royal Heather. Peshwa was four lengths away third, and Polyastra fourth, with Thcic well back. Santiago at Last. Santiago was always favourite for the Turamoe Hurdles, with Comedy Prince, San Fera and Brigadier Bill fairly evenly backed. San Fora, Good Sport, Brigadier Bill and Comical were the leaders for live furlongs, but then Merry Singer, Comedy Prince and Santiago commenced their runs. Santiago just led San Fera and Brigadier Bill at the last fence, and L. G. Morris, on i Santiago, taking no risks, urged his i mount along to win by four lengths I from Comedy Prince. Brigadier Bill I was three lengths away third, and Merry Singer, San Fera and Comical next. San Fera was almost down at the last fence, where he was going particularly well, and but for the mishap would have been very hard to beat. Polar In a Close Finish. Llandudno was a very hot favourite for the Kidnappers Hack Handicap, with Polar a good priced second favourite. Merry Imp began best and led across the top from Tino Maunga, with Polar, Black Rock, Vivo and Llandudno next. Polar went up to Merry Imp at the turn, while Llandudno made his effort wide out. Polar and Tino Maunga came away to light out the finish, Polar beating Tino Maunga by a head. Jubilee was two lengths away third, with Vivo fourth and Llandudno and Black Rock next. Sturdee’s Great Display. Sturdee wound up favourite for the June Steeplechase, but there was plenty of support for Passin ’ Through and the AT oden-Kovno bracket. Sturdee went out to make the pace and led down the straight from Woden, Passin’ Through, L nele Dave and Silent Dick, | Kovno dropping her rider at the first ! of the stand double. There was no | change over the round, but at the stand ' double the next time Silent Dick camo i to grief. Passin’ Through jumped I away from Woden at the five furlong i post, but in attempting to go up to | Sturdee bungled the sod wall and was almost down. Sturdee wont on and won very comfortably by six lengths from Passin’ Through. Uncle Dave was a furlong away, the only other to finish. Woden came a complete cropper at the second last fence, but his rider, H. E. Ryder, received no injury. Sturdee’s effort was particularly fine, and he gave a great display of jumping. He looks ; more than a possibility for another Na- 1 tional. He received an ovation on returning to the birdcage. Another Bracelet for Hillation. Perle de Leon was backed down to odds-on in the Ladies’ Bracelet, Arch Salute being in more request than Hillation. Foreign led down the straight from Peshwa, Arch Salute, Mint Julep and Hillation, with Perle de Leon see- ; ond last. Hillation went up to third place in the back straight, where Foreign had a commanding lead. Hillation had reached Foreign at the turn, where Perle de Leon could be seen making his effort. Hillation von easily by four lengths from Perle de : Leon, who defeated Foreign by three lengths. Good Mark and Peshwa were next. Bennanee Improves. Cohesion was a £2OO better favourite ihan Bennanee for the Raukawa Hanfl icap in a very fair betting race. Son o’ Mine led out from Takaroa, Bennanec and Crishna, but Bennanee soon took charge and showed the way past the six furlong post to Cohesion, Strongholt, Crishna and Gurnion. Bennanee, Cohesion, Strongholt and Christina were in a bunch at the turn, but Bennanee came away again to win easily by two lengths from Cohesion, who just beat Crishna by a head. Othon was a head away fourth, and Bracman and Son o’ Mine next. Huikai Scores Again. There was little between Huikai and Wristlet for favouritism in the Final

Handicap. Wristlet showed out for a flash, but Watchman was in front inside fifty yards from Huikai, Startle and Wristlet. Watchman was two lengths clear of Huikai and Startle going to the turn, with Wristlet and Miss Hupana next. Watchman stopped over the last furlong, and Huikai came through to beat Olympic, who came with a good late run, by two lengths. Wristlet was three lengths away third, and Morose, Startle and Watchman next. Olympic will not be long now. FULL DETAILS (Per Press Association.) HASTINGS, June 2(5.
