OBITUARY

.. MRS. ELIZABETH REID SMYTHE. To those who knew the life of service given by Airs. Smythe the news of her death on Saturday afternoon at the residence of her son-in-law, Captain White, at Castlecliff, came as a groat shock. She was great in character, but greater than all was the love of her heart for the children of the seaside suburb of Castleciiff. There must be scores who have benefited by her overflowing kindness, ever so easily drawn upon. For a number of years she had superintended St. Luke’s (Anglican) Sunday School and Bible Class with conspicuous ability, and in every branch of church and social life, her courage, persistence and enthusiasm were amazing. There is no one who will precisely fill the place that she occupied in the affections of the children and the parents at Castleciiff. Those who had the privilege of her acquaintance and friendship have lost a friend whose place can never be filled, but whose memory will long serve as an incentive to labour as she laboured. The sympathy of all will be extended to her daughter, Airs. White. The funeral service will he held at St. Luke’s Church, Castleciiff, at 1.30 p.m. to-morrow. MRS. W. J. DAVEY. Mrs. W. J.
