SADDLER ROBBED
BACKBLOCKS OUTRAGE HELD UP AT POINT OF GUN SENSATION AT RUATOREA (Per Press Association.) GISBORNE, March 29. At tabout 11 o’clock on Saturday night Albert Edward Orange, a saddler, of Ruatorea, was called from his bed by a Maori, who said that he had a saddle to be repaired. He gave Orange the saddle and then Said that some more saddles were around the corner. He went away and came back I with masked Maoris, one of whom wlas armed with a double-barrelled gun. ( The three natives rushed at Orange and I violently assaulted him. When Orange i recovered he found that he had been , robbed and reported the occurrence to the police. Yesterday lafternoon Inspector Eccles and two constables went to Whcnuakurapa and there arrested three natives on charges of assaulting and robbing Orange. The shot gun and saddle *are now in the hands of the police. Orange was badly knocked about.
