At the Police Court James Henry Alfred Redder, aged 47, pleaded guilty to the theft of sums of money totalling £49 11s 7d, the property of the Miranui Co-operative Society. The accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The police stated that accused had been secretary of the society since the middle of last year, and had’ cleared out in February, when an examination of the books showed a deficiency. The accused attributed his action to gambling.
