TOURIST SEASON
STEADY RUSH TO DUNEDIN. GOOD PROSPECTS FOR EASTER. “It is astonishing how the bookings for Dunedin are keeping up,” stated Mr A. E. Wilson, manager of the Auckland branch of the Government Tourist Bureau, last week. “I never anticipated such a prolonged rush. Last week we had 200 bookings for Dunedin and South Island resorts. We anticipate that there will be a big rush at Easter. Alany inquiries about bookings have already been made.” Air Wilson said that an Easter rush to the exhibition could easily be accounted for. During the Christmas holidays most Auckland people preferred the beaches. At Easter the weather would not be so favourable and there would be a pilgrimage to Dunedin. Rotorua is now fully booked up and will remain so until the end of this month. At present there are about 250 bowlers and their wives there. Wairakei and Taupo are full of visitors, stated Air Wilson. “Overseas sportsmen are flocking to Russell for the deep sea fishing,” said Air Wilson, “and we expect many more to arrive from overseas during the next month.” One Englishman who had visited New Zealand annually for the trout fishing for the past 25 years, had at last fallen to the deep sea craze. He kept to trout fishing as long as he could but was at last overcome by a desire to tackle the big fish. He left for Russell full of hope yesterday morning. The South Island resorts such as Queenstown, Alount Cook, and the Alilford track are expected to be popular about Easter. In addition to visiting the exhibition many people have expressed the intention of seeing something of the South Island’s scenic resorts as well.
