TAWHERO SCHOOL
A NEW HALL OF LEARNING The opening ceremony of the Tawhero school took place on Tuesday morning. There was a very good attendance of pupils and parents. The number of pupils enrolled was very satisfactory, and augurs well for the success of this beautiful and up-to-date school. The chairman of the School Committee, Mr p. Broadhead, in introducing Mr W. A. Collins, chairman of the Education Board, made a few brief remarks with regard to the school. Mr Collins, in introducing the staff, which is under the able guidance of Miss McCarthy (late head mistress of the model country school), said he was quite satisfied that with such a fine and up-to-date school it would prosper and soon be one of the chief schools in the district. Mr Collins also appealed to the parents for their cooperation, and hoped they would give all the assistance they could, as the committee had a lot of work to do and much depended on the* efforts of the parents. He also referred in eulogistic terms to Mr Hodge, the board’s architect. and his staff, for the loyal and good work in having the school in readiness for to-day’s opening, and called for three cheers for the teachers, Mr Hodge and staff, and the School Committee. Mr Broadhead then called for cheers for Mr Collins. The ofiicial opening will take place in about a month’s time, when Sir James Parr, Minister of Education, will officiate.
