TRADE COMMISSIONER
MB ELMSLIE TRANSFERRED. PROMOTION TO SOUTH AFRICA. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. Notification has been received from the Department of Overseas Trade, London, by cablegram that His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr Noel Elmslie, has been appointed to the post of His Majesty’s Senior Trade Commissioner in South Africa, in succession to Mr A. G. Wickham, who was for some years Commissioner in New Zealand, and who has now retired on the grounds of illhcalth. Mr Elmslie left New Zealand for an official visit to the United Kingdom last March, and upon Mr Wickham’s resignation arrangements were made for him to proceed temporarily to Johannesburg, where he has been in control since November. Mr Elmslie’s career includes 12 years’ experience in the engineering profession, during which time he spent four years in Australia. After serving in the Army from September, 1914, to April, 1918," he was seconded for duty as a section director at the Ministry of Munitions. He entered the Department of Overseas Trade in April, 1919, and was assistant director in the Empire Division of that Department until his appointment as Trade Commissioner in New Zealand in February, 1923.
The successor to Mr Elmslie as trade commissioner in New Zealand has not yet been selected, but the appointment will be made as soon as possible.
