SMUGGLING CHINESE
SHIP’S FIREMAN HEAVILY FINED ASSISTANCE TO CELESTIAL STOWAWAYS [Per Press Association] AUCKLAND, Feb. 4. Robert Poole, a fireman on the Tofua, was fined £75 for assisting three Chinamen to unlawfully land in New Zealand. Accused hid the Chinese in a storeroom near the boiler. They wore discovered by the ship’s engineer.
