ITALIAN COLONISTS

FIVE THOUSAND FOR AUSTRALIA POPULATION FIGURES SIX MILLION MARK REACHED MELBOURNE, Feb. 3. The Commonwealth Statistician announces that the population of the Commonwealth has reached the 6,000,000 mark. The sixth million was reached in eight years compared with 13 years of the fifth million, but in his opinion the war caused the difference. Immigration for 1925 totalled 38,000, a decrease of 6000 on the previous year. Nearly 5000 Italians arrived, an increase of 1000. There was a notable falling off in the number of Greek and Maltese setters.
