SOUTHLAND WOOL SALES 1 BIDDING UP TO BROKERS’ VALUATIONS. [Per Press Association] INVERCARGILL, Feb. 2. The Southland wool sales opened yesterday. Bids came quietly and steadily, with an occasional high bid for special lots. There were comparatively few passings. Wool came forward only in fair condition. The top price so far obtained is sixteen and a-half pence for thirteen bales of crossbred hoggets, twelve bales crossbred ewes sixteen pence, a line of crossbred hoggets fifteen and three-quarter pence. Bellies and locks sold well at prices in excess of brokers’ valuations. Low grade crossbreds just failed to reach valuations, but average good Southland crossbreds and super wool realised expectations making up tol 6id, medium crossbred ewes lOd to J 2d, dingy matted fleece round about lOd. Pieces.—First grade 8d to BAd, second grade 6d to crutchings to 7d, locks 5d to 6d. NOT VERY BRISK. BRADFORD THE PRINCIPAL OPERATOR. [Per Press Association] INVERCARGILL, Feb. 2. The first wool sale of the season was completed to-day, when prices were on a par with those ruling at recent sales. The sale was not very brisk, and the majority of the lots sold went to Bradford buyers. The following is the range of prices:
