RAILWAY HOURS
TROUBLE IN N.S.W. WORKERS DISSATISFIED WITH POSITION ADMINISTRATION OF 44-HOUR WEEK. SYDNEY, Feb. 2. Trouble has arisen among tho railwaymen over the administration of the 44-hour week, and unless wiser counsels prevail tho railway services of the State may be seriously interrupted. The secretary of the Australian Railwaymen’s Union says that departmental officers arc introducing broken shifts on a very large scale, which means, as far as the 44-hour week is concerned, that men are placed at a greater disadvantage than when 48 hours were worked. Some, sections are called upon to sign on at a particular time, and 50 minutes later are booked off for 40 minutes for their meal. The men contend that tho spirit of the Act has not been observed, and arc insistent on securing the. benefits which the Act provides.
