STRANGE CREATURES IN MINE DIMINUTIVE UNDERGROUND RACE QUEER TALE FROM GLOUCESTER COLLIERIES. LILLIPUTIAN ON LUMP OF COAL. By Telegraph—Per Press Assn.—Copyright. LONDON, Feb. 1. Gloucestershire has been startled by the discovery of a Lilliputian living in a Poolway colliery. Miners who were, exploring old workings caught a mysterious creature 14in. high with a round head the size of a teacup and strikingly resembling a human being. It was covered with soft brown hair, had two eyes, eyebrows and eyelashes, little, round ears, a flat nose and a mouth containing a fine set of pearly white teeth. It had a short neck, tiny arms, perfect hands, robust legs 4Ain long, and human feet. j When trapped it snarled like a monkey. Such was the extremity of its i right that it lived only an hour. The miners left the creature lying on a bank of coal, but -when they investigated the following day it had disappeared. It is believed to have been retrieved by relatives of tho miniature. tribe. The story was first regarded as a fantasy of drunken imagination, but it was confirmed by a family living at Coleford. This seemingly proves the existence of subterranean beings. Mrs Gwilliam, when serving-supper, was alarmed by a movement in the coal scuttle. Her daughter screamed cn seeing a terrifying little creature like a tiny half-caste miner, well proportioned, with shapely hips and a smiling face, seated on a lump of coal. Her husband, in view of the children’s hysterics, threw the scuttle out of the door.
