A TIME FOR CAUTION

The report of a slight outbreak of infantile, paralysis in Sydney should set New Zealand on guard. There is no reason at present to suppose that Sydney has suffered anything worse than a sporadic recurrence of a disease which apparently is never quite stamped out, nor need we be alarmed lest the infection should spread to New Zealand; but we know from experience that infantile paralysis is perpetually a potential menace. The Christmas holiday season has been opened in warmer weather than we had had for some time previously. Probably it would be well for parents while on holiday with their children to bear in mind the simple precautions which they observed last summer. It would be equally well for the health authorities to issue notices on the subject, telling parents just what is necessary to guard their families against V, possible danger. Infantile paralysis is a particularly devastating disease, leaving in its train troubles that are very hard to cure. Prevention is the best remedy to apply.
